My Perfect Weekend...

My perfect weekend involves driving a couple of hours to Kalamazoo, Michigan from the Detroit area, or better yet, taking the train. The train goes right through downtown Kalamazoo.

Once you arrive, there are lots of places to stay. We usually stay at the Marriott. The rooms are clean, offer internet, and I like staying at a place that serves breakfast. If you come often enough, the hotel staff gets to know you, which is nice.

There are lots of things to do in the area. You can start at the Kalamazoo art museum, and later check out what is happening at the Miller Auditorium on Western Michigan University's campus. At Miller, there are typically many live performances, ranging from top-rated student bands, orchestras and ensembles, to top name live concerts and Broadway productions. If you prefer, there is also walking paths and golf for exercise.

After a day of activity, we love eating at the London Grill - Singapore, which is in downtown Kalamazoo. The restaurant has the look of a British pub and is casual with unique menu items featuring Singapore and English specialties. There is usually live entertainment on the weekends.

After dinner, you might take a walk over to the Union Cabaret and Grille. There are usually WMU music students playing jazz, blues or big band music.

In the morning after breakfast, take a short drive to South Haven and Lake Michigan. We like to begin the day walking by the lake and then having lunch at the Thirst Perch Grill before the drive home. If you love perch, you'll love eating here.

We hope you enjoy a weekend visit to Kalamazoo like we did.
